Welcome to River Cities Humane Society for Cats!

Thanks for visiting the River Cities Humane Society for Cats website.  All of our cats are spayed or neutered before adoption, litter box trained, socialized, tested for Feline Aids/Leukemia and up to date on routine vaccinations.  River Cities cats are "indoor" only cats.  We have made this a policy because we feel strongly that indoor cats live longer and more healthy lives than outdoor cats

Please remember that requests to surrender cats must be called in to the Shelter at 318-343-3031. They cannot be handled through e-mail.

                                      ORVAL’S ANNUAL“BARK IN THE PARK”

The Ouachita River Valley Animal League (ORVAL) is presenting its 17th annual “Bark in the Park” fundraiser at Forsythe Park in Monroe on Saturday, October 4th, beginning at 8:00 am.  Registration begins at 7:00 am. The event is a 5K run for people and a 1K run and 1K walk for people and pets. (All pets must be on a leash and up-to-date on vaccinations.)  But, you don’t have to have a pet to participate.  Walk in memory of a pet, for yourself, or just to help.

Proceeds support ORVAL’s veterinary medical assistance programs. Orval helps many cats and dogs receive surgery (including spaying and neutering) and/or treatments for disease.  Bark in the Park is a major fundraiser for ORVAL, so the more money they raise, the more they can help local pet owners.

There’ll be trophies for winners, and, while they last, t-shirts for participants, gift bags and door prizes.  There’ll also be great music and booths with items for sale.  River Cities will sponsor a booth featuring lots of great pet-themed items as well as free pet care information.  You can register at the park the day of the run. For more information, call 376-0331 or go to www.barkintheparkrun.com.

Barn Cats available at River Cities Humane Society for Cats

Most cats can slip easily into the roll of being an inside house pet, but sometimes River Cities Humane Society for Cats will have a cat that can not adapt to inside life, usually because the animal was an outside cat before they were surrendered.  We call these special felines our “Barn Cats”.  These cats are spayed or neutered, checked for feline aids and leukemia, had their age appropriate vaccinations and are looking for outside homes.  These outside homes could be a farm, a horse stable, a warehouse, a barn or out building, or other suitable outdoor location.
